Enchanted Portals is like Cuphead-at-homeĮnchanted Portals is a 2D platformer game that has cartoon-like visuals that's very similar to Cuphead. But the more I look into the trailer, I am sure that Enchanted Portals has definitely crossed the clear line of being inspired and being a copycat. In fact, I think it's just a new game that takes the inspiration of Studio MDHR’s Cuphead at first. The concept of this game is very fine for me, as it's concept is kind of cute and vibrant. Shoot your way through this world to find the spellbook's pages back However, this world has a lot of dangerous creatures, and they'll have to use the abilities of magicians to defeat them. In order to get back, the two will need to gather all of the pages from their spellbook together. Their actions have opened a magical portal, which then sucks them and the spellbook to another world far from their home. The two young magicians have more curiosity than they should And karma strikes instantly as the two are messing around with something more powerful than they have expected. The game starts in a magical world, as the two young magicians are playing recklessly, throwing spells from their spellbook everywhere. Long as EP tries to diversify the gameplay a bit so it can stand out a bit more, I don't have any problems with it.Let's set the stir away for now, and find out what will happen in Enchanted Portals first. Ever seen Sliders or read Exiles? Something like that. Hence the title there and all the weirdness they encounter. So, hey, more power to Hashil: Actually I think the theme is that the portals are sending the two kids through various dimensions and/or time periods. The creators of EP pretty much know what they want and what they were getting into when they announced it. At the end of the day it's just another (albeit extremely fun) run and gun game. People are just complaining because of the fact there hasn't been a 2D run and gun in a long while and think Cuphead broke the mold It's unique in it's style, but really that's about it. Heck Cuphead itself is taking cues from Contra and Metal Slug for their gameplay too. Plus you know how it goes when something is popular, you're going to have followers. I'm not complaining, I like the designs and it looks cute enough. I agree with Jim, it's glening from Cuphead's style when it comes to gameplay and animation choice, but that aside, the vibe is all it's own and going for a more fantasy feel then a old school toon throwback in the form of a shooter. Hence why they started up a kickstarter in the first place to make it look better. Well you gotta keep in mind that these are early concept builds, not the final product. I love how her leitmotif sounds so delightfully trollish. That said, I think the game still looks really good, and I'm excited for it.Įdited by DrNoPuma on Oct 22nd 2019 at 1:22:44 PM Of course, other games get their styles ripped off all the time, and people don't complain like they have for this one. Also, it's hard to tell from the trailer, but it looks as if the gameplay has some subtle differences from Cuphead too (for example, when the boy gets hit with a hammer, instead of taking damage, he seemingly just gets squashed down for a few seconds.) It's a shame that they couldn't have strayed from Cuphead's style a little more, but I don't think it's fair to call it a complete ripoff. So many creative ideas went into this game. While the game does seem to use a similar Boss Game format and art style, the worlds, the characters, and the plotline are very different from those in Cuphead. It borrows the gameplay style, and the art and seemingly the music in its aesthetic too. The game has come under fire for seemingly being a ripoff of Cuphead. Enchanted Portals is an upcoming run and gun game by Xixo Games Studio.
